Lights, Camera, Action
Just released is Hollander & Lexer's Fall/Winter 09 PR. And with it, the pictures I did for them.
I had the opportunity to work on a few projects with Hisham Benmira and Brian Cousins. This book, just out to the public, was a collaboration in front of and behind the camera. We were able to use some great tools to create a retro/contemporary book to show their new rags.

Head Shots
Head shots are one of many a way photographers make a living in the new economy. I happened to duck into one hour photo place near my house to see how business was going. I wanted to see if they had had a chance to upgrade their operation to coincide with advances in technology. Looks like there was no need. Keep it simply dummy.

When Photo Shoot Turns to Disaster.
Working with a baby can be unpredictable. After a generous feeding and small nap, it was time to sit for the camera. Lighting, check, wardrobe, check, makeup, check, cameras, check. We are good to go.
Four or five frames in, disaster strikes. We have a crying baby on our hands.
If mommy is not around when the baby cries, does the baby really cry?
Well if there is a photograph, yes.

Animal Indeed
My wife and I had a baby two and a half weeks ago. The proper thing to do is post photographs of the little bundle of joy. Though, this being our first child, I was surprised at how little I knew about loving one's own child. I made this picture (and for obvious reasons did not show the rest of the family on the baby's website) and decided that it was accurate.
Who is this little creature that keeps me up all night?

A funny thing happened on location last week
Robert Graham Fall 09
The Robert Graham Fall 09 book is out and I had a chance to get my hands on an advanced copy. The layout is spectacular, done by Floor 13 Designs. Have a look by clicking HERE.
The reason I am using this picture first in the edit is that it was perfect for the client and they loved it. This is one of those moments when styling, production and photography comes together to make an image that captures all of the conceptual aspects the client was aiming for.
The cloths are high end and have a rugged aspect to them. Additionally, there are 6 or 7 features that one can notice from this one image. The inside of the color is embroidered, their tag, "Knowledge, Wisdom, Truth" can easily be made out on the tie, etc, etc. Overall the model looks cool wearing these cloths.

Rough Trip
Just got back today from shooting the Gravity East downhill race at Windham Mt.
Day one: rain, rain, rain. Day two: mud, mud, mud.
As I mentioned in an earlier post, I was going to hand out as many cards, seen below, as possible. But my stack of well orchestrated cards turned into a pile of mud by 10am on day one.
Kirt Zimmer did me a huge favor on this one. He told me that I am know to do my best work if left along. So he left me alone with the entire mountain. After crawling through mud, and enduring relentless rain, at the top of the mountain, with a bag of expensive camera gear (which I own) and lighting gear (which I don't), I got exactly what he meant. What he really wanted to say is, "I'll just slow you down."
Kirt - thanks a bunch for this great opportunity and the unlimited use of 4x4s and various members of your staff. They were vital to make this work.

On My Way Out of Town Today
I am on my way out of town today for a shoot at Windham Mt. for the Gravity East Series (here). Definitely animal the whole way on this one. No budget for travel, assistant, or extra camera. Though, if you can't do it with one camera, one lens and an borrowed car, you can't do it at all.
I told the mountain that I was willing to do it animal style if they were willing to give me freedom. I am sure they will like it more than a highly forced thing anyway.
In an effort to cast a bigger net to promote myself, I put the above card together to get the word out.
